Your birth chart, free and no email needed
A birth chart, also called a natal chart, is a snapshot of the sky for your birth date, time and place. Use it for self-reflection, not fixed predictions.
Results cover the Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune and Pluto. Unknown birth times produce a limited chart.
How to read your chart in 5 steps
1. Start with your Big Three: your Sun sign, Moon sign and rising sign. In astrology, the Sun is read as a symbol of identity and purpose, the Moon of emotional needs and habitual responses, and the rising sign of how you approach unfamiliar situations. Read these together as prompts for reflection, not fixed personality labels.
2. Read the degrees. Each sign spans 30°; the degree locates a placement within it. Planets sharing a sign need not be close together.
3. Review Mercury, Venus and Mars, then the remaining planets. Note each planet’s sign and degree.
4. Add houses when you know your birth time. Whole-sign houses put your rising sign first, the next sign second, and so on.
5. Follow each placement’s explanation link when available. Compare it with an everyday situation, such as handling a changed plan, rather than treating one placement as your whole personality.
What you’re looking at: planets, signs, houses and angles
Think of planets as “what,” signs as “how” and houses as “where”: the factor, its style and its area of expression. These are separate layers.
The Ascendant is the point of the zodiac rising on the eastern horizon; its sign is your rising sign. The Descendant is the opposite point on the western horizon. The Midheaven (MC) is where the ecliptic (the Sun’s apparent path) meets the upper local meridian, and the Imum Coeli (IC) is its opposite. With whole-sign houses, the MC is not necessarily in the tenth house.
Aspects are angular relationships between placements, including conjunctions, sextiles, squares, trines and oppositions. This calculator does not list aspects yet. A stellium is a grouping of several planets in one sign or house; definitions vary.
Retrograde means apparent backward motion as viewed from Earth. Read it as a description of motion, not a warning or verdict.
Sample result
Here is a fictional example to show how results are laid out. It is not a real person’s chart. With Leo rising, whole-sign houses make Leo the 1st house, Virgo the 2nd, and so on.
| Body | Sign | Degree | House |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sun | Taurus | 14° | 10th |
| Moon | Scorpio | 22° | 4th |
| Mercury | Aries | 28° | 9th |
| Venus | Gemini | 3° | 11th |
| Mars | Capricorn | 9° | 6th |
| Rising sign | Leo | 17° | 1st |
How we calculate your chart
Positions use the tropical zodiac and astronomy-engine, an open-source ephemeris for calculating celestial positions. Its accuracy is about one arcminute, or 1/60 of a degree; calculations run in your browser.
Your local birth time is converted to UTC using historical time-zone and daylight-saving rules from the IANA time-zone database. The birthplace lookup supplies coordinates.
Your birth data is not stored. It stays in your browser except for the city name, which is looked up to obtain coordinates.
Why your birth time matters
The rising sign changes roughly every two hours, faster or slower depending on sign and latitude. Use a time accurate to the minute when possible; even 30 minutes can matter near a boundary.
Without a birth time, the calculator uses 12:00 noon local time and omits the rising sign, Midheaven and houses. The Moon moves about 12 to 15° daily; if it changes signs that day, you will see both possible Moon signs and the change time.
Noon is a calculation convention, not an estimated birth time. A long-form birth certificate, state vital records office, or family or hospital records may help you find yours.
Why does my chart look different on another site?
Compare settings first: this calculator uses the tropical zodiac and whole-sign houses. Sidereal zodiacs can give different signs; other house systems can give different house placements.
Check the birth date, AM or PM, and birthplace, including city, state and country. Historical time-zone or daylight-saving differences can also affect results. Check the labels too: the North Node (☊) is not the Ascendant (AC), or rising sign.
Birth chart FAQ
Is it free? Yes. No payment, email or sign-up is required. You do not need an account.
Which calculator is most accurate? Ephemeris accuracy does not remove uncertainty in your birth time. Precise inputs matter, especially for your rising sign and houses.
How do you find your rising sign? Enter your birth date, birthplace and accurate birth time. Without that time, this calculator leaves it out.
What are the North Node, Chiron and Lilith? The North Node is where the Moon’s path crosses the ecliptic northward. Chiron is a small Solar System body. Black Moon Lilith is a calculated point associated with the Moon’s orbital apogee, its farthest point from Earth; some sites instead use the asteroid Lilith. These are not included in this calculator’s listed results.
Where should you go next? Read What Is a Birth Chart? or Your Big Three. For a focused result, try the Moon Sign Calculator or Rising Sign Calculator. For later study, synastry compares two birth charts, while transits compare planetary positions at another time with your natal placements.
How this is calculated
Positions use the tropical zodiac and the astronomy-engine ephemeris (accuracy about 1 arcminute). Your local birth time is converted to UTC with the historical time-zone rules of your birth place. Houses use the whole-sign system.
